Twisted Nether Blogcast #3

There’s a new episode of the Twisted Nether Blogcast out.  Having just staggered in from the night shift (the last one, hurray!), it’s a nice way to unwind before I go to bed.  Bre and Fim sound more relaxed and confident every week, it just gets better and better.  Well done chaps and chappesses!

Epic Mount

Élen's Epic Flying Mount

Well, I finally got my arse in gear today and did a load of daily quests on Élen, Winífred and Ravenwynd in a bit push to get the last few gold for Élen’s epic flying mount. She has 12G left! I need to set myself a goal so the next thing on the list will be a blue one for Hulan. I also got busy on Hulan and ran heroic Slave Pens to get the last badge she needed for Essence of the Martyr. It’s been quite a productive day!

Area52

Area52 Screenshot

I’ve been meaning to post this for ages. I took the screenshot when Ravenwynd first got her flight form. I messed about with it in PaintShopPro and used it for my desktop for a while. I was quite pleased with the effect I got.

Getting There!

I finally got the css for the main body of the site working properly which means the acre of space between the posts and the sidebar is gone.  The lightbox plugin is now working.  For some strange reason now I’ve made the changes, in IE everything in the sidebar is centred even though I haven’t changed any of the code there!  It still looks ok-ish though and I’m fed up of faffing with it; it seems like as I fix one issue, I break something else!  Now the only thing left to work on is the header.

A New Look

As you can see, I’ve been redecorating here. I’m pretty much happy with it although there are a couple of niggle. Firstly the section at the top, it looks a bit plain. When I can summon up the enthusiasm I shall have a cast about in my screenshots and see if there’s anything I can use. Secondly, I installed a lightbox plugin. It works fine on the test blog on my PC but doesn’t work on my site. This is the one I got, if anyone can recommend another please shout up in the comments. The final niggle is how the site displays in FF. Until I got the category icons working in the sidebar the main background box had a nice jagged edge. It shows up in IE just fine, isn’t that bloody typical?! I’m not going to lose any sleep over it though.

Edit: the lightbox is fixed, thanks to the author’s help.

Pre-Expansion Blues?

I remember in the months before Burning Crusade came out that a lot of friends and guildmates started to feel very jaded with WoW and many of them stopped playing for a few months, re-activating their accounts when the expansion was released. A similar thing seems to be happening now and I’m feeling a little jaded myself although I probably won’t go as far as stopping playing…I’d have to catch up on all those little jobs I put off if I did that. Decisions, Decisions

Dimity is level 48 now and it won’t be long until she hits Outland.  I’m considering making a Sageblade for her as my blacksmith got the pattern out of a locked box a few months ago.  The only sword of a similar level is Spellfire Longsword which drops in Slave Pens.  According to Wowhead it has an 18% drop rate.  I may get lucky and get it on my first run or I may have to run the instance 10 times to get it.  I have the most of the mats for the Sageblade so should I make the crafted sword or keep my fingers crossed for the drop in Slave Pens?  Answers on a post card please.

Collateral Damage

TJ has posted about a member of her guild who has recently been caught up in a mass ban of people using Glider,  a botting program that automates game play in ways it’s not supposed be automated.  In a mass ban of 56,000 players, inevitibly there will be a number of users who are wrongly caught up and TJ’s guildmate, Lamaa, is one of these.  The problem is not that he was wrongly banned but how hard, if not impossible, it seems to communicate with anyone at Blizzard to rectify the situation.  To add insult to injury on the day that was Lamaa received the notice he was banned Blizzard renewed his 3 month subscription charge and have told him to it is non-refundable.  Blizzard maybe accusing Lamaa of cheating, however to my mind Blizzard are stealing; there’s no other word for it.  In his position my first call would be to my credit card company to have them issue a charge-back against Blizzard; after all, if he can’t log into his account, he can’t stop his subscription can he? Ding!

Dimity on her new mount

Dimity finally hit 40 just before I had to get ready for work tonight. I was able to get my new (free) mount and equip the nice plate breatsplate I got in Razorfen Downs earlier in the week. I suspect this will be my only piece of plate armour Dimity wears for a while as level 40 plate armour goes for stupid prices on the Auction House!
