Auctionator

Although I have had Auctioneer for years I hadn’t made heavy use of it until I started seriously playing the AH.  When I started posting glyphs I started to run into serious performance issues, plus I never really got the hang of features like snatch.  Looking around the various gold-making blogs I occasionally came across references to an AH addon called Auctionator.  Once I installed it I seriously fell for it.  Auctionator can be downloaded from Curse or from the author’s own website which also has a lot of additional information about how to get the best out of it.  While it doesn’t have as many features as Auctioneer, for simple buying and selling it is very easy to use, takes little setting up and has no performance issues at all.  It is a very powerful tool in its own right.

Installing Auctionator (you should disable Auctioneer first if you have it installed) gives you 3 extra tabs on the AH interface – Buy, Sell and More.

This is what the Buy tabe looks like :

Auctionator Buy Tab

Auctionator Buy Tab

Simply type the name of the item you’re looking for and hit search. The name can be a full or partial name, if a partial name it will return a list if items that meet the search criteria and you can then click on the item you want to bring up the list of current auctions.  As you can see it will bring up a list of all the auctions sorted in order of buyout price per item.  If the auction is for a stack, the stack price will be shown on the right.  If you had auctions listed you could cancel from this screen simply by clicking the auction then clicking the Cancel Auctions button.  Buying is easy, simply click the auction, then click  the Buy button.  If there is more than one auction you have a box come up where you can enter the number of auctions you wish to buy.  On the left-hand side you can see that recent searches are saved.  If you regularly check for the item you can create a Shopping List and add the item to it.  To see Shopping Lists just click the drop-down arrow on the top left (I currently have recent Searches showing in my screenshot.

Selling is just as simple.  This is what the Sell tabe looks like :

Auctionator Sell Tab

Auctionator Sell Tab

In my screen shot I have just posted some flasks. To post the auction you would drag the item into the Sell Tab, then Auctionator does a search and brings back all the current auctions for that item, in the same format as the search results on the Buy Tab. When I posted my auctions I decided it wasn’t worth undercutting the 2 flasks going for 30G 75S; I clicked the auction I wanted to undercut, ie, the flasks going for 34G 88S, entered the number of items I wanted to sell and the stack size then clicked the Create Auctions button (this is greyed out in my screenshot as I have just posted my auctions). In the Auctionator settings you can specify your undercut and this can vary depending on the value of the auction.  One of the few limitations that Auctionator imposes is that you can only have up to 40 single-stack auctions of any item.  Personally I haven’t found this a problem but possibly others would.

The final tab for Auctionate is the More Tab :

Auctionator More Tab

Auctionator More Tab

This is a list of all the items you have auctions for on the AH. Clicking on any item will bring up a list of all the auctions for that particular item, if your is the lowest price it displays the green tick, if not you will see a red cross by the name. It’s a bit obscured on my screenshot but the button on the bottom left, Check Auctions, will run a check on every item in the list.  You can opt to check only or check and cancel undercut auctions.

In each Auctionator tab there are 2 buttons on the top right, Full Scan… and Auctionator.   Full Scan… runs a scan of the AH; apart from the very first scan and scans immediately following the installation of a new patch which take several minutes, the scan time is very, very fast – usually about 15 seconds.  The Auctionator buttons takes you to the settings window.  There are very few options you need to set to get started.

The other thing you will see on all 3 tabs are Current, Past and Other tabs above the search results.  The Past tab is very useful if you want to sell something and there are no current auctions.  Clicking on the Past tab will bring up a list of all the previous auctions for that item you have posted.

So there is a quick and dirty overview of Auctionator.  Unless you are using some of the very advanced features of Auctioneer, it may be the addon for you.  Note that you can still use the other utilities inclided int he Auctioneer Suite with Auctionator, eg, Beancounter and Enchantrix.

This is great! I am so useless with Auctioneer, I have given up. Will definitely try out this add-on. Auctioneer is a bit too complex for me, well not really but I cant be bothered to learn how to use it properly.

I tested every Auction House addon tonight. Auctionator was my favorite because of the lightning-fast scans and the beautiful purchasing interface.

Sadly, I have to stick with Auctioneer for a few reasons:
    1) Batch Post – With Auctioneer I can enable goods to be part of a “Batch Post” and whenever they’re in my bags I can send them to the AH with a shift-ctrl-alt+click. This is a HUGE time-saver.
    2) KevTool Queue, an addon that allows me to craft every glyph or gem that is currently selling above a certain price threshold, pulls its price data from Auctioneer )=.
