Patch 3.3 AH Madness

Well, the patch has finally hit.  I was due back at work on the night shift on Wednesday night so I haven’t had a chance yet to try out the new instances or the the LFG tool but what I have been able to do is post auctions.  As soon as the server came up on Wednesday morning I logged in on my scribe,  bought the new recipes and made a stack of each new glyph.  I put them on the AH at 70G each and was quite surprised when the mage glyph started selling straight away.  I managed to sell around 10 before one of my major competitors logged in and dropped the price in one fell swoop to 12G.

Wednesday was a fairly quiet day for me on the AH.  I sold a lot of glyphs but the prices are low on our server; I also sold some flasks but held back on everything else.  It seems like everyone and their auntie dumped their stock on the AH immediately and prices were very low for most items.  With hindsight I should have stocked up on some things!

On Thursday things started hotting up.  Most of the initial glut had been snapped up by those with an eye for a bargain and prices of epic gems and flasks were starting to rise.  I have 2 alchemists (one a transmute spec) who have been transmuting epic gems for the last few weeks.  I sent them all to my JC and started trickling them and the flasks on to the AH.  Before I left for work I posted a load of flasks near the top of the posted price range on short auctions, not sure if they would sell or not.  Friday morning’s mailbox exceeded my wildest dreams!  I had to reload my ui 4 times to get all my mail.  I had virtually no expired auctions and my takings totalled just under 10,000 gold!  I posted more auctions before I went to bed and most of them sold.  Friday night was a repeat of the previous night – I arrived home this morning to 9,000  gold in my mail box.  I have been putting my surplus gold into the guild bank as I go (I usually keep around 10K on my banker for purchases) and checked the bank log this evening.  Since the patch hit I have banked 45,000 which I’m pretty pleased with.  Just a few weeks ago I started out with 7K and had increased that to 10K on my banker and 40K in the guild bank.  In less than a week I have doubled that!

Pre-patch I had invested in saronite ore, saronite bars and borean leather.  The prices (on my server at least) are as cheap as they ever were however long-term I won’t lose money.  The saronite ore can be used to produce gems and enchanting mats;  not only are epic gems selling well, but rare quality gems have perked up too.  The saronite bars, of which I had far fewer, will be used to make eternal belt buckles (which are selling like hot cakes) and some will be transmuted to tianium bars which I can use to make titansteel bars.  The borean leather will be used to make heavy borean armor kits; not many people seem to bother selling these and they go for 25-30G having cost 13.5G (max) to make.  Also my hunter is stuck at 440 LW so I can now get her cheaply and easily to 450.  Infinite dust is finally starting to pick up.  I had stock-piled a lot of this and following the recent change to enchanting the market was flooded with it.  Just today is seems to be recovering; there are still 12 pages of auctions for it but prices are coming back up.  Greater cosmic essence seems very thin on the ground at the moment and I had quite a lot of that too which is selling well and more than making up for the dust price.

I confess I was getting nervous before the patch.  My AH income was certainly increasing but it felt quite slow and I was worried that I was investing too much in raw materials against the patch.  When I saw how the AH was flooded on Wednesday I thought I might have made a big mistake in hanging on to my small store of epic gems however now I’m kicking myself for not having invested in uncut gems while the price was still low.  When I started my AH venture I never dreamed that it would be possible for me to make 45,000 gold in 4 days.  I’m looking forward to my days off; having exceeded my wildest expectations in the market place I won’t have any qualms at all about letting my banker have a few days off while my girls go mad with the new LFG tool.

Hi Breevok – the 2 weeks after the patch hit were insane! I banked around 80K. It is slowing down a lot now, plus I have blown some gold but I have around 140K in my guild bank atm. The last couple of weeks I have spent more time actually playing my various chars than playing the AH. I am concentrating mostly on glyphs and scaling back my other markets – trying to find a happy balance :) I still have 2 chars to get to 80 and need to find the time to level them. Ultimately i would like to hit the cap but am in no great rush, anytime before the next expansion will do :D
