I Did It!

I had my first 5K profit day!  I have been ploughing a lot of my spare cash into Frost Lotus when they come within my price limit.  I like to make large numbers at once because I think the proc gods are more likely to be benevolent when I’m making 60 than when I’m making 10.  A lot of “cheap” Frost Lotus came onto the market on Sunday and Monday and on Monday morning my banker had about 300G left on him, plus a couple of thousand gold in the Guild Bank which was my “don’t touch” money.  I had good days on Monday and Tuesday, my income was over 5K on both days but it wasn’t all profit.  On Wednesday was maintenance and the raid reset.  Wednesday night was stellar!  The only downside is that I have a very bad cold and felt too ill to stay up and let all my mail come in.  I posted flasks all through tea-time, posting as quickly as they were selling, occasionally hanging back when the price dropped below my minimum sell price.  I logged in the next day to 1800G in my mailbox, most of which had sold the previous evening so the total for the day was nearer 8.5K profit.

I have been able to put a lot of cash into my Guild Bank and with what my banker currently has on him he’s worth 25K gold.  I’m pleased as when I embarked on my AH adventure he had about 7K.  In addition I have a large stock of flasks, leather, saronite ore and bars, and various eternals.  The only thing I’m low on at the moment is Frost Lotus but I have enough flasks to keep me going for at least a week so can build my stock back up again hopefully once more come on the market at an acceptable price.

The Wolf books continue to be a good seller.  I sold 20 on Wednesday and 10 on Thursday.  I notice I now have a competitor who doesn’t seem to have realised that the key to selling them is to hawk them in trade chat.  Every now and then they fling a dozen up on the AH and they sit there until they expire.  I post just one of each colour that I have, shout out in trade and replace on the AH as they sell.  You can have a lot of fun with your ads :

Things are going quite well on the glyph market.  It’s a bit of a weird set up:  at the top is T who seems to be the self-proclaimed guardian of glyph prices.  He has 3 or 4 of every single glyph there is posted all the time at anything between 9-15G.  I can’t imagine he ever sells any, although apparently at one time he did.  I wonder if it’s just a matter of time before he gets fed up and stops.  On the one hand it means that on my server we never see glyphs on the AH for more than 15G max, on the other hand maybe that’s not such a bad thing – glyph making isn’t an obvious “get rich quick” opportunity either.

The other major seller is S; from chatting to him he has been around as long as T and for a long time the two of them pretty much dominated the market.  He isn’t around in the day time (on weekdays) but is very active in the evenings and some weekend.  After almost a week of reposting constantly in the evenings I contacted him and suggested a truce.  His glyph seller is a member of one of the oldest RP guilds on the server so I guessed that I would be dealing with someone who could string a sentence together.  The arrangement we came to is that the days are mine, the evenings and weekends are his.  If he’s not around in an evening or on the weekend I will go ahead and post my glyphs.  I work a lot of weekend so it’s not such a big deal for me.

The final serious competitor is K, who seems to have started around the same time that I did.  K is a serious pain in the arse to some extent.  Either they haven’t learned all the recipes yet or they haven’t figured out all the good sellers.  On those glyphs I’m doing very nicely however on the good-sellers that they do know, basically I’m selling very few.  it seems like they are using QA2 but instead of a small undercut, basically they round down to the next gold!  As they don’t seem to have a lower limit, ie, they are selling 2-ink glyphs for 1 gold, I am constantly reposting against them until the price drops below my limit.  I’m hoping that they are making virtually no profit and will soon dismiss it as being impossible to make money from.  As they only seem to log in at lunch time I will occasionally buy one or two of their glyphs to reset the price, which effectively flips them, but am trying not to do this as i believe sold glyphs are encouragement.  I can only hope they go bust sooner rather than later!

Hey congrats to you, that had to feel great.

Eventually I’ll get there, I’m still snapping up good deals whenever I see them, so although the WOW gold keeps rolling in. Gold is going out into investments. I’m finally getting to the point that even though I spend money in investments the amount of gold I have sitting in my bank alts guild bank is not under 3,000. That’s a good thing.

It certainly felt good :) It’s a little unnerving to see your cash reserve dwindling and little coming back in but worth it when pay day comes.

You’ve started me wondering now. I’m an ex-Moonglader who used to be in what I hope was seen as one of the respected role-playing guilds, so if I know “S” or not, I’m guessing I’d certainly be aware of them, but trying to work out whom he or she is is occupying my brain!
