What Goes Around, Comes Around

Today I saw a very interesting post by Tella.  She talked about a book scribes could make that turns the player into a wolf. I’d never heard of it before but looked it up on Wowhead and it didn’t look difficult to farm.  Within half an hour I had learned the pattern and hit the AH for some Eternal Shadow and some herbs to make the required ink.  I made 10 and put 2 on the AH and a shout-out in the Trade channel.  Within 2 minutes the first one had sold!  They generated quite a bit of interest; I had a whisper from a pally wanting to know where it dropped so he could go farm it himself.  I was tempted to make something up and send him off on a fruitless quest in the back of beyond but restrained myself and told him it was a crafted item.

It took me a little while to realise that there are actually 4 different colours of wolf; red, black. white and grey.  Out of my 10 I had 1 white, 2 grey,3 black and 4 red.  When I realised this I posted them so that initially I had one of each colour up and put another shout-out int he Trade channel.  Again was was snapped up straightaway.  Then I got a whisper from a hunter saying she had bought it but was tempted to get one in each colour.  We ended up having quite a chat and it turned out that she was a scribe too but didn’t have the pattern.  She asked what the srop rate was like and I told her it hadn’t taken long to get it.  She obviously had better things to do because 5 minutes later she bought two more.  As she had bought 3 I said she could have the last colour she needed for free.  Probably not a “Goblin” thing to do but I was so chuffed to have sold 3 of them in one go.

Throughout the evening I popped and posted more selling another 3, leaving 2 red and one black at the end of the night.  As I had to log on my scribe and mill some herbs (that had finally come available, all the herbalists seem to have had the day off on our server today!) I put out another shout.  This time a warrior whispered me wanting to know where it was from.  I told him the same as I told the pally earlier.  Unlike the pally he took himself straight to the AH and bought one!  I whispered him to see which colour he’d bought and it turned out to be the red one.  I said that I had never seen the red one at which he said he was also in IF and would I like to see it?  It looks mighty fine and he was tickled pink with it.  He was so chuffed that he gave me 72G as a tip on top of the 85G he’d just paid for the book!

I’ve always believed that what goes around, comes around and that it is true for the good and the bad things in life.  On an impulse I gave one away to a stranger and a couple of hours later someone pays me almost double my price for one.  The whole venture turned out to be very profitable.  It cost me 330G to make them and, after auction fees, I made 799G; a total profit of 469G.  I shall certainly be making more.  Like Tella says, I believe the key to selling them is to advertise them in trade.  few people seem to know anything about them.

To round off, I have finally made back my initial seed money and started making a profit.  While I make less on glyphs in the evening as there is an AH camper competing with me, they are not online in the daytime.  This means that i can log in early, post all my glyphs and have the whole market to myself in the day time.  Today was a cracking day and this is the result.
