PeeVeePee

After over 4 years of playing WoW I have finally dipped my toe into the PvP pool.  The last time I attempted PvP was back in vanilla WoW when 900 gold for an epic mount took months to grind.  Back then if you got to Rank 3 in PvP you got an extra 10% discount.  My hunter spent 2 weeks in Arathi Basin running round like a headless chicken and after buying my mount I never set foot in there again.  Winífred, my mage, went in just once and died so depressingly fast I never took her back in.  Acouple of weeks ago I decided to try some battle grounds with Dimity, mainly to have something to do in those odds and ends of time where I’m bored.  I am completely hooked!

As before I was dying depressingly fast initially.  Mostly trying to reach for buttons I have rarely used before – if I even remembered I had them in the first place.  I looked at a few sites and rearranged my tool bar and slowly I think I am improving.  In the first few days I must have been the easiest kill in the Battlegroup, I’m surprised the Horde didn’t die laughing!  Recently though there are more and more fights that I win, and there are those I lose but are quite close.  I made the crafted plate PvP set and whilst I have a healthy dollop of extra stamina and resilience my dps took a big hit.  PvP is a fine balance between using enough defensive abilities to keep yourself alive and doing enough damage to kill your opponent.  I’m definitely getting better at defending myself and as I slowly swap out my blue gear for better pieces my dps should improve.

My favourite BG is Arathi Basin with Wintergrasp coming a close second.  I’ve been in Alterac Valley a couple of times and liked it but don’t really have a clue what I’m supposed to be doing.  WSG I dislike and I always feel like a spare part in there.  There never seems to be any discussion of tactics and I feel like I basically just follow the heard with no idea what I am supposed to be achieving.  I went in Eye of the Storm yesterday and that wasn’t bad, I don’t think it will ever be a favourite but it doesn’t make me want to stick needles in my eyes either.  I am also pretty clueless about the two new BG’s in Northrend.  I’ve only been in both of them a few times and have a very idea about what the objective is and no idea about tactics to achieve it.  I also find them similar and get confused between the two.

So enthusiastic have I become about PvP that I let a guildie talk me into joining his 2v2 arena team with Ravenwynd, my druid.  She has no PvP gear at all and a pure resto spec plus I have never so much as peeked around the door of an arena.  It was good fun though.  We did 15 fights and managed to win 5 of them.  After that I took her in a couple of BGs.  I went to the Strand as that was the daily and it took me 3 goes to complete the quest.  On Raven it’s easier in that I just look on my map for a fight going on and head over to see who I can heal.  I was pleased to come out top on the healing on the fight that we won!

I’m now trying to resist the temptation to take Winí in there.  I have always loved Frost and have found, on Dimity, that Frost mages are my nemesis.  Maybe there’s a place for her there.
