After several years of sharing my WoW account with my kids I finally decided to set them up with their own account. You would think this was easy yes? You’d be wrong! I decided to go the route of Recruit A Friend. This involves several stages, send an invite and set up a trial account. Then you upgrade to a regular account, just enter your payment details. Then you have to pay for the two expansions. Click the link for The Burning Crusade and enter your payment details again. So far, so good. Then I tried to upgrade to WotLK. Follow the link, enter my payment details again (this is getting very tedious), click the button and get a message telling you that you have tried to enter your payment details 3 times and are now locked out for 24 hours!!!
Now, if there had been a way, say some sort of shopping cart system, where I could have added everything that I wanted and paid for it all in one go I would have done but there isn’t. The only way to get from a trial account to a fully upgraded account involves 3 transactions. What idiot designed this? I thought that maybe it was objecting to that particular card having been entered 3 times so I tried to pay for the final expansion using a different card and got exactly the same message. I tried ringing billing – there’s nothing they can do, the account is now locked for at least 24 hours, possibly 72 hours as I tried again using a different card. I can’t be the first person this has happened to, surely?
