Introducing Nithu

I have spent the last few days levelling my new Death Knight, Nithu. So far I’m finding playing her a lot of fun, the only fly in the ointment being having to do all the tBC content again to get her to level 70 so that she can start the new Northrend content. Apart from a quick look around, I haven’t done any of the new content yet. For the time being she is using an Unholy spec however I would like to try out the others too, especially the Blood spec which also looks good for levelling. I was grouped with a DK yesterday for a group quest and his health was noticeably higher than mine, although usually it isn’t a problem.

I loved the DK starting area. It was very atmospheric and the quests fitted in really well. There were also some novelty quests which were great fun although some of the new mechanics threw me a little initially. When I did the quest to fire the ship’s canon I was expecting to get a pet bar to control the canon and spent ages trying to work out how to fire it until one of the kids pointed out that the controls were in my main spell bar – doh! Instead of making the item a “pet”, now you are the pet and the items spells/controls appear in your main bar. Overall I think this is an improvement, on non-standard UI’s, the pet bar may not even be enabled and I know there have been problems in the past with bugged pet bars, eg, BWL.

Once I got out of the starting zone I went and picked up skinning and herbalism and took the time to get them both to 300 before I started questing. Cooking and fishing will have to wait for another time, there is just too much to do right now! I started questing in earnest on Monday afternoon and Nithu is now 63 and has almost finished Hellfire Peninsula; at this rate it won’t be long at all until she is in Northrend. My biggest frustration at the moment is that today is my last day to play until Monday and the maintenance has been extended by 4 hours.

On the subject of trade skills I’m in a bit of a quandry. I’ve heard that all items produced by tailoring etc will be BoE, there will be no BoP items. This seems to make it a bit redundant to have 2 tailors and 2 leatherworkers. At the moment my trade skills are :

Hulan (Priest) : tailor, alchemist
Winifred (Mage) : tailor, herbalist
Ravenwynd (Druid) : leatherworker, scribe
Elen (Hunter) : skinner, leatherworker
Primrose (Warrior) : miner, blacksmith
Nithu (Death Knight) : skinner, herbalist
Dimity (Paladin) : Enchanter, Jeweller

As I’m not sure I’m going to continue playing Dimity, it might make sense to have Winifred drop tailoring and take up enchanting.  My concern is that at some point in the future they start again with recipes for BoP items.  Thoughts on a postcard please!
